![]() I am pretty sure that if I could assign this mac address to the helper vm the converter could access this machine in our network. Using 'arp,' you can in fact determine the MAC address of some computers from their IP address. ![]() Significant 9 bits of the multicast IP address are quite simply ignored and the remaining3 bits are copied into the lowest 23 bits of the MAC address. In Windows, Linux and other operating systems, the command line utility 'arp' shows this information. Not a one-to-one mapping between multicast IP address and multicast MAC addresses. It seems to me that the Converter is trying to create this helper VM with a random Mac address but and I don't have control over that so that the logfile says "connect failed to ". Most computers allow you to see the list of IP and MAC addresses that ARP has collected there. In our company IP addresses are bound to MAC addresses, I already registered a new IP address with a VMWAre friendly (00:50:56:xx) Mac address in our IT department.īut when I use this IP address in the static helper VM setting in the Converter Standalone I am missing the information to enter a Mac address. To format a MAC address string without delimiters to a MAC address separated by a colon (:) or hyphen (-), you can use a formula based on the TEXTJOIN, MID, and SEQUENCE functions. Therefore I am trying to set up a static IP address for my helper VM machine but because I am within a enterprise network (which does not allow DHCP) I have the following problem. I want to convert a physical linux machine using the Converter Standalone 5.1. First, thank you all for this wonderful community, it helped me a lot in the past answering my questions by browsing the forums!
